LAN Acronym for Local-Area Network. A computer and communications network that conveys a limited geographical area, allows every node to communicate with every other node, and does not require a central node or processor.
landscape A 90° rotated page so that the horizontal axis is the longer axis. See also portrait.
LDAP Acronym for Lightweight Directory Access protocol. Also called Internet Directory Service to search for public available information about persons like E-mail address.
LIFO Acronym for Last In First Out Storage Policy. Stack storage, i.e. the last stored item is the first one that may be removed. See also FEFO, FILO, FIFO, queue.
ligature Two or more characters linked together, as in cursive writing.
LIM 1) Refers to the consortium of three companies - Lotus, Intel and Microsoft - that adopted standards for memory expansion in the 1980s. 2) Laboratory Information Management.

link 1) In communications, a line or channel that you transmit data over. 2) In data management, a connection made in hypertext between documents. 3) In programming, to call up another program or subroutine.
LISP Acronym for LIst Processing Language. Lisp was designed for problems in artificial intelligence and other areas with irregular data structures that are well represented as lists.
listbox The area in a dialog box that has a list of options for you to choose from.
LLC Short for Logical Link Control, LLC is the upper portion of the data link layer defined in IEEE 802.2. The LLC provides the user an interface to the data link layer service that is generally the network layer.
load To call data up from disk and place it in the memory.
logical Something that is defined through a decision and not necessarily through physical properties.
login (n) The account name used to gain access to a computer system. Not a secret (contrast with Password). (v) The act of entering into a computer system.
